Guwahati: Tribal militant outfit NDFB(S) is planning to disrupt Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi’s visit to Assam for election campaigning.
Gandhi, who had toured the state with a two-day programme last month, is scheduled to campaign for party candidates in the northern parts of the state on March 27 next.
The NDFB(S) has threatened to disrupt his impending visit, local television channels reported today.
The militant outfit claimed that Mr Gandhi has failed to espouse the cause of the Bodo tribals and warning him against entering ‘Bodoland’ territory.
The outfit is suspected to try to carry out subversive activities before the visit and called for a bandh on March 27. The NDFB(S) has also asked the people not to attend Gandhi’s rally and warned of ‘dire consequences’ if its diktat is not followed.
The outfit, which has split several times in the past and many of its leaders and members are now engaged in peace talks with the government, has been waging an armed struggle in support of its demands, including a separate ‘Bodoland’. (UNI)
