SHILLONG: As part of the SVEEP (Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation) Campaign, the East Garo Hills District Administration in collaboration with the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer conducted a kite flying competition cum fun kite flying show on Tuesday morning followed by an LED kite flying and Chinese lantern show in the evening at Williamnagar.
The programme, aimed at spreading the message of ethical voting and doing away with urban apathy towards electoral participation, was attended by a huge crowd from various localities of Williamnagar. As part of the fun kite flying show, colorful kites in shapes of fish, butterfly, cobra, parachute, glider and a B-2 fighter plane along with a Gyroscope Hexacopter flying machine were flown. The programmes were held at the Ronggrengre Playground.
Meanwhile, the District Election Officer of West Jaintia Hills has informed that in the run up to the Lok Sabha Election 2014 and as part of the SVEEP 2014, the Office of the Deputy Commissioner will organize several events like fun kite flying and entertainment show for families, LED kite flying show at night, air show and kite flying competition on March 26 from 11 am onward at Jrisalein Playground.
Similar events would also be held at Ampati Football Playground near Ampati Indoor Stadium, South West Garo Hills, on March 27. An international kite flying team will perform during the show, it was informed.
The programme will start at 10 am with fun kite flying and entertainment show for families, air show and kite flying competition for those in the age group of 18 years and above and at 6 pm there will be an LED kite flying show.
