SHILLONG: A goal in the dying moments of regular time bought Nangkiew Irat another chance, but Royal Wahingdoh came through the resulting penalty shoot-out 3-1 to reach the final of the U-14 Football Tournament at Third Ground, Polo, on Tuesday.

Wahingdoh took the lead in the seventh minute with a goal from Rafael S Wanniang, but Samuel James Lyngdoh Kynshi equalised for Nangkiew only a minute later.

The next goal had to wait for the start of the second half when Kitboklang Khyriem put the Royals into the lead again in the 32nd minute.

The ball then went back and forth as both sides pressed on without success.

Two minutes of stoppage time were added to the second session and with a handful of seconds remaining Kynshi, a regular scorer for Nangkiew, earned a lifeline for his team with a fiery strike that made it 2-2.

That forced the tiebreaker, which Wahingdoh came through 3-1.

RWFC’s rivals in the final will be decided on Wednesday when Mawkhar SC play Rangdajied United in the second semifinal at Third Ground, Polo, at 4:00pm.
