SHILLONG: In what can be termed as good news, a BSNL initiative has ensured that internet connectivity becomes a part of life for border residents.
DP Singh, ITS, Chief General Manager, BSNL NE-I Circle, Shillong inaugurated the optical fiber services and broadband internet services at Dawki telephone exchange on Thursday.
88 kms of optical fiber cable was laid to Dawki at a project cost of Rs 3.2 crore.
Speaking on the occasion, Singh informed that with commissioning of optical fiber cable, reliable landline broadband internet services are now provided at Dawki and further assured that 3G services on mobile will also be launched very soon at Dawki. The project for optical fiber laying for Dawki, though initiated in year 2000, was completed now as there were problems in getting permissions from various authorities.
