IMPHAL: The Manipur State Congress Party has sought the disqualification of five MLAs elected from the party in the last assembly elections.
Addressing the media on Friday, MSCP vice president Adin Pamei said the five MLAs – Janghemlung Panmei (Tamenglong), Karam Amarjit (Keirao), Nemcha Kipgen (Kangpokpi), RK Imo (Sagolband) and Paonam Brojen (Wangjing Tentha) – elected from MSCP tickets have joined the Congress party. “These five MLAs, by voluntarily giving up membership of the MSCP, will incur disqualification as members of the legislative assembly under Para 2 (1) (A) of the Tenth Schedule of the Constitution,” stated Pamei.
He then refuted reports that the MSCP had merged with the Congress.
On the ensuing polls, Pamei said MSCP will support the candidate of Naga People’s Front in the Outer parliamentary constituency of Manipur by virtue of being a member of North East Regional Parties Front. (NNN)
