SHILLONG: Congress leader John Kharshiing who was denied party ticket has campaigned on Saturday for the sitting Congress candidate Vincent Pala at Rambrai, West Khadi Hills around 130 kms away from here.
Speaking at the public meeting in the market area of Rambrai, Kharshiing who is also the Vice President of MPCC asked the people of Rambrai constituency to support the Congress party.
“Only the Congress can provide all round development and the party has taken special interest to address the issues of the indigenous people of the Northeast”, he said.
He also said that as disciplined soldiers and just like members of a football team, the party members have to take various positions in the field.
“We have accepted the decision of the AICC to field sitting MP and we are all working together to ensure the victory of the Congress candidate, he said.
Kharshiing highlighted the rapid growth of the allocation of the state budget since last five years from Rs1200 crore to Rs 4151 during 2013-14, and that the progress in all sectors of the state was beginning to show on the ground slowly.
He also said that lack of political stability in the past was the reason for the slow growth of development in the state. Others who spoke during the meeting were Dr. Eureka Lyngdoh, president, B Kharbani, working president, West Khasi Hills District Congress, Kimfa Marbaniang, president, Rambrai, BCC, and others.
