Arunachal Congress says money ‘unknowingly’ given to journalists
Itanagar: After a section of Arunachal Pradesh’s media accused Congress of trying to bribe media, the APCC on Sunday said envelopes containing money were ‘unknowingly’ handed over to few journalists. Arunachal Press Club (APC) and Arunachal Pradesh Union of Working Journalist (APUWJ) lodged a complaint with Chief Electoral Office (CEO) against Congress on Saturday accusing it of violating model code of conduct by trying to bribe media. In an letter addressed to the CEO, APCC stated that “a few envelopes containing some amount intended to be disbursed to APCC staff’s over time payment received from the party’s accountant, were unknowingly handed over to few journalists”. APC and APUWJ had in the complaint claimed that APCC violated the MCC by distributing envelopes containing some cash to media persons after the release of party’s manifesto at Rajiv Gandhi Bhawan here on March 27. Bangladeshis attack Indian farmers along international border
Kamalpur (Tripura): Two Indian farmers were seriously injured when a group of Bangladeshis illegally trespassed into the Indian territory and attacked them in Dhalai district along the India-Banladesh border. Police said the trouble started at about 11 am when few Indian farmers caught hold of a cow, belonging to a Bangladeshi owner, which was feeding on an Indian farmer’s crops. Outraged, the Bangladeshis attacked the Indian farmers with machetes and batons. Two injured farmers were admitted to Kamalpur sub-divisional hospital in critical condition, police said. The barbed wire fencing was made 100 yards inside of the IB to adhere to Indo-Bangla border guidelines. (PTI)
Nagaland CM campaigns for NPF candidate in Manipur
Kohima: Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphu Rio firmly placed the Naga Peoples Front (NPF) battle against the Congress in the state In his second visit to Manipur in less than a week. According to NPF sources on Sunday, Rio addressed two election rallies for the NPF candidate Soso Lorho, in Tamenglong district of Manipur on Saturday, after Lorho’s campaign for the Outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituency was launched by Rio on March 26, at the Mini stadium in Senapati district. Dwelling on the emotive issue of Naga unification and their identity, Rio said all the Nagas are divided and scattered in various places such as Nagaland, Assam, Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh and Myanmar. Rio alleged that Manipur Chief Minister Ibobi Singh and Union Home Ministry in charge Joint Secretary, Shambu Singh was trying to prevent him from visiting the Manipur. (UNI)
Nagaland to host first women’s leadership summit in Kohima
Kohima: The first ever ‘Women Empowerment and Leadership Summit – North East Region’ (WELSNER) will be held in Kohima on April 25 and 26 and inaugurated by Governor Ashwani Kumar. According to a statement, this is the first such high-level summit ever to be held in the North Eastern Region and the event will focus on promoting leadership initiatives, enhancing the skills to develop more effective leadership and decision-making by conducting meetings, sharing strategies and ideas, exploring business opportunities and build profitable professional relationships.
