SHILLONG: A group of miscreants set to fire a small motorable bridge at Phudkroh, South West Khasi Hills on Sunday night.

Following damage to the bridge vehicles going towards Mawkyrwat were being diverted through the border road along the Indo-Bangladesh international border.

“I have asked the Extra Assistant Commissioner to conduct an inquiry into the matter. We have also filed an FIR,” South West Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner Ripnar Lyngdoh informed on Monday.

An immediate repair of the bridge has also been ordered, the DC informed adding that the repair work is expected to be completed by Wednesday.

Lyngdoh said that the damage to the bridge has not totally disrupted the movement of vehicles to Mawkyrwat and adjoining areas.

“We have diverted the vehicles from the Border road and the BSF has been intimated about the diversion,” Lyngdoh added.
