Wahingdoh end with third straight draw

SHILLONG: Royal Wahingdoh finished the first leg of the final round of the Second Division I-League in Silchar on Monday with their third consecutive draw.

The Royals drew 1-1 with Kalighat Milan Sangha and thus ended the first leg with six points from four matches. Their lone victory came against United Sikkim on March 23.

Wahingdoh opened the scoring against Kalighat in the 21st minute after Reagan Singh collected a Jackichand Singh pass and sent in a 30-yard scorcher to take the lead.

The Royals were unlucky not to extend their lead further, being denied on a few occasions.

Kalighat then earned the equaliser in the 70th minute when they were awarded a penalty, which was converted by James Gbilee.

RWFC are second among the five contesting teams, behind Bhawanipore FC, who have 10 points with three wins and a draw. Hindustan FC are third on four points, ahead of Kalighat on head-to-head. Former I-League club United Sikkim are bringing up the rear.

Each team will now play another four matches in the second leg and Wahingdoh need to lift their game if they are to top Bhawanipore.

They have not scored more than one goal in any of their matches, even experiencing two 0-0 draws.

The second leg will be held in Aizawl and Royal Wahingdoh will play their first match against Hindustan FC on April 3. The two teams played out a goa
