Guwahati: Inquiry was ordered by Assam CEO Vijayendra into allegations of violation of the Model Code of Conduct by Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi’s son, four ministers and a Congress MLA in the run-up to the three phase Lok Sabha polls in the state.
The Chief Minister’s son Gaurav Gogoi, a Congress candidate from Kaliabor constituency, was accused of not submitting a detailed account of his wealth and assets in his affidavit filed during nomination, election office sources said today. Ministers Gautam Roy, Himanta Biswa Sarma, Pradyut Bordoloi and Akon Bora were also accused of violating the Model Code, the sources said.
The BJP had complained against Sarma, the Health and Education minister for allegedly distributing cheques to voters in his constituency. Roy, Public Health and Engineering minister was accused by the BJP of distributing cash and sweets in a hospital.
Industry and Commerce minister Pradyut Bordoloi was alleged to have violated the Model Code by holding meetings with tea garden owners and representatives of various tea workers associations in Upper Assam, the sources said. Bora, the Social Welfare minister was accused by BJP of holding meetings with 18 Anganwadi workers. The CEO directed Deputy Commissioner of Kamrup (Metro) to suspend three Anganwadi workers with immediate effect, they said. A case was filed in Karimganj’s Badarpur police station after the Badarpur Congress MLA, Jamal Uddin Ahmed at a public meeting, threatened to pour kerosene and set ablaze Border minister, Siddeque Ahmed for allegedly supporting AIUDF candidate and not the sitting Congress MP, Lalit Mohan Suklabaidya.
In Dhubri, district President Sushil Roy was allegedly caught on camera by a local television channel distributing cash. Dhubri’s Congress candidate Wajed Ali Choudhury was also accused of distributing cash. The CEO also directed Jorhat Deputy Commissioner to inquire into the allegations by an NGO Sachetan Nagarik Mancha that a section of government employees were campaigning for Congress in the district.
