Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Nabam Tuki on Tuesday claimed that there was no Modi wave in the state and Congress would make a clean sweep in the April-9 Lok Sabha and Assembly polls in the state. “Modi’s last Arunachal visit proved lucky for us. We won eleven Assembly constituencies unopposed! I have full confidence that his second visit would bring more luck to us. We’ll sweep the Assembly and Parliamentary elections,” Tuki told an election rally at Dambuk in Lower Dibang Valley district.

Claiming that BJP has no base in the North-East, he said “of the eight north eastern states, five are ruled by the Congress while BJP has no presence anywhere. It is surprising that BJP has its eyes on Arunachal, which never will be a reality,” he said.

“Our victory in eleven Assembly Constituencies unopposed has shaken the already dwindling foundation of BJP in the state and it was evident from Modi’s address at Itanagar,” he said in rallies in troubled Tirap and Changlang districts. Modi while addressing a rally here yesterday had thrown a slew of allegations on the Congress even questioning the victory of Tuki unopposed from Sagalee Constituency.

BJP had put up its candidate against Tuki, who withdrew from the fray on the last date of withdrawal of nominations. “Those who withdrew their nominations were their (BJP’s) candidates. Why doesn’t Modi ask his candidates?” he said. (PTI)
