Policeman critically injured in firing in Assam

Diphu: A policeman was critically injured in a gun-battle with encroachers when they tried to grab in Assam’s Karbi Anglong district along Nagaland border today, police said.

The incident happened when a group of encroachers allegedly from Nagaland attempted to grab land in Doldoli Reserve forest at Koroibari under Dhansiri police station of the district and were pushed back by the police, they said, adding, that the encroachers returned to the spot and opened fire on the cops, critically injuring one.

The situation was tense but under control, they said. The area witnessed sporadic incidents of violence in the last three months with encroachers attempting to grab lands. (PTI)
