3 killed, 2 injured in firing by NDFB(S)

Kokrajhar: Three persons were killed and two others injured in an attack by NDFB (Songbijit) militants in Kokrajhar district of Assam on Wednesday. The anti-talk insurgent faction opened fire on a truck carrying construction materials for a bridge in Mornoi Tea Estate area along the Assam-Bengal border around 12.45 pm, police said. While the truck driver and two labourers were gunned down on the spot, two other workers were seriously injured, the police said. The driver was identified as Rajib Mushahary and the labourers as Asatun Bibi and Ashabul Sheikh.The injured, identified as Ayuf Rahman, was admitted to hospital. Kokrajhar constituency will to the polls on April 24. (PTI)

Tension along Nagaland- Assam border runs high

Kohima: Tension ran high along the Nagaland- Assam border following Assam police patrolling party reportedly opened fire on Dikoi villagers, a recognized by Nagaland Government under Dimapur district, area adjoining Rangapahar military camp on Tuesday. According to official sources on Wednesday the firing took place late afternoon, however no villagers was injured in the incident. On hearing the news, Dimapur police team led by Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Niuland, Mhonyamo Tsopoe rushed to the spot and recovered around 30 empty shells of AK-47 and INSAS rifles near the village. Sources quoting eyewitnesses, said that around 10 personnel of Assam Police in civvies, some of them with their faces covered, started ‘blank firing’ while the villagers were engaged with work.
