4 die as car plunges into river

JOWAI: Four people died on the spot while another escaped with grievous injuries when the car in which they were travelling went off the road and plunged into Amtyrngai river in Amlarem sub-division in West Jaintia Hills district on Sunday. Sources informed that the ill-fated vehicle, driven by one Nepiw Deb (22), was on its way from Muktapur to Dawki when the accident took place. The victims were identified as Ben khongsling 23, Sujit Patro, 33, Riha Patro, 22, and the driver. The injured person, who is yet to be identified, is undergoing treatment in a Jowai hospital.
