SHILLONG: Following the call of the State Government inviting all the militant groups in the State to come for talks, the Achik National Liberation Army (ANLA) stated that it was ready for talks only if their list of demands were met by the Government.

In a statement issued to the media on Tuesday, Mikkim Achik, chairman of ANLA, said that one of their demands is to reserve 3 per cent jobs for the disabled since the same policy was not being followed by the Meghalaya Government.

“In the posts meant for the disabled, the Government has been effecting illegal appointments by taking away the eights of the less privileged,” Mikkim alleged.

Another demand of the outfit is that the Government should help the poor in terms of education by way of setting up new schools and colleges.

The third demand of ANLA is that the surrendered militants and organizations under ceasefire should be properly rehabilitated and there should not be any harassment. The ANLA also suggested that the Government can deploy the surrendered cadres as paramilitary personnel to serve the country.

The major demand of ANLA is that the Government should take steps for creation of a separate Garo Autonomous State.

“If the Government is ready to look into these demands, the organization will settle for peace once and for all,” the ANLA chief asserted.
