SHILLONG: In what can be termed as a violation of the model code of conduct, Congress member Waibha Kyndiah, son of former Congress MP Patty Ripple Kyndiah put up a Congress party flag and a huge cut-out of party president Sonia Gandhi in his mansion at Madanryting located well within 200 metres of the polling station at St Peter’s LP and UP School.
This can be termed as a clear violation of the election code since no campaigning or any other activity is allowed within a 200-metre radius of the polling stations.
Surprisingly, the Congress party also set up two stalls where people were offered free food and tea and that too within the 200-metre radius of the polling station at Madanryting, close to the residence of the Congress leader.
When contacted, Chief Electoral Officer P Naik said that nothing can be done within a 200-metre radius of polling station and putting up of any party flag is a violation of Representation of the People’s Act.
