Shillong: In an apparent instance of bogus voting, an unidentified person cast the vote of Nandini Devi without the latter’s knowledge.
Nandini Devi, around 34 years of age, is a voter from Malki-Nongthymmai Assembly constituency and her designated polling station was at Kelian Public School.
Devi, who works as a maid, went to the polling station at 11.30 in the morning but to her surprise she found that her vote had already been cast by someone.
Irked by the unusual experience, Devi who stays near Tripura Castle approached the presiding officer but of no avail. The polling personnel regretted that they could not do anything to help her as her vote had already been cast by someone. She expressed shock, wondering how someone could sign on her behalf of her. She said it was a waste of time for her to come to the polling station, leaving the household chores.
