SHILLONG: The District Election Officer, East Khasi Hills has assured to look into the issue of alleged violation of the model code of conduct by sitting Rajya Sabha member Wansuk Syiem of the Congress during the Lok Sabha elections in the State on Wednesday.
A Congress party flag and a huge cut-out of party president Sonia Gandhi was displayed at the residence of the MP at Madanryting located well within 200 metres of the polling station at St Peter’s LP and UP School.
East Khasi Hills District Election Officer Sanjay Goyal on Friday said that his office will verify the report and take action accordingly.
It is learnt that the UDP has already moved the District Election Officer with a complaint against the alleged violation of model code of conduct by the MP.
Putting up a party flag is a clear violation of the election code since no campaigning or any other activity is allowed within a 200-metre radius of any polling station.
