SHILLONG: The Meghalaya State Commission for Women has condemned the statement of Mulayam Singh Yadav that “boys make mistake why hang them” with regards to the judgement on the gang rape case and death sentence passed by Mumbai High Court.
In a statement issued here on Friday, MSCW chairperson Theilin Phanbuh said that the statement was uncalled for when the law on rape was already in place and rates of conviction appear to be very low in the country.
“In fact, more stringent measures are needed to urgently to combat the menace of offences such as rape and other sexual offence,” she said
She also questioned as to how the leader could make such a statement when the principal of a school could commit a heinous and shameful act on a minor girl in Resbelpara.
The former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister, Mulayam Singh Yadav also said that there was a need to change the new anti-rape law so that those misusing it are punished.
