St Nanak, Arya Kanya win in U-16 school cricket

SHILLONG: St Nanak defeated Queenie Secondary School by nine wickets, while Arya Kanya were only slightly less convincing in their seven-wicket victory over Jail Road Boys in the U-16 9th IP Das Memorial Inter School Cricket Tournament at the Cricket Ground, Polo, on Friday.
Electing to bat after winning the toss, Queenie SS were bundled out for just 39 runs in 10.2 overs.
Bikram Pradhan was destroyer-in-chief, taking 5-18 in 4.2 overs. Ranjan Kishore was also successful, bagging 3-9 in two overs.
In reply, St Nanak reached the target for the loss of one wicket in only 4.2 overs. Pankaj Mahato scored 15 of his team’s runs off a dozen balls, while Alvin Marbaniang (1-5) claimed the only wicket.
Batting first did not work out for Jail Road Boys, either, as they were dismissed for 85 in 15.5 overs after winning the toss.
Vishal Balmiki also claimed a five-for, taking 5-21 in five overs.
Arya Kanya then made the required runs in 18.3 overs for the loss of three wickets.
Silash Thapa top-scored with 21 runs. Sahabuddin Ali ended with figures of 1-14 in five overs.
The school tournament will now take a break, as 1st MLP will play Tornado in the final of the Second Division on Saturday.
