SHILLONG: Police arrested the CRPF official Jagdish Singh for trying to outrage the modesty of a woman at Mendipathar in North Garo Hills.
It was on April 10 at around 9.30 pm that the SI of CRPF Singh camped at Indoor Stadium, Mendipathar went to the residence of Md. Fidha Hussain at Mendipathar and caught hold of the hand of his wife.
Again on April 11 at around 2.15 pm, he went to the same house again and on seeing him, the wife of Hussain raised an alarm. Following this, the public assaulted him and later they tried to take him to Mendipathar police station.
However, on the way, the CRPF personnel attacked the public near Indoor Stadium and rescued Singh. The CRPF personnel also dragged a civilian identified as Bajrang Baswan to their camp and assaulted him with cane and rifle butt.
Later, the public gheraoed the CRPF camp demanding release of Baswan. The situation was brought under control by the police.
