Basti fire renders nearly 150 families homeless in Nagaland

Kohima: Around 150 families were rendered homeless in a devastating fire that broke at Rio colony, Signal Basti in Dimapur, official sources said on Sunday. The fire reduced to ashes thatched houses in the basti and burnt down a prayer house on Saturday, sources said. The affected families are mostly daily wage earners and small-time businessmen, sources said. The actual cause and damage to property in the blaze is yet to be ascertained, but no loss of life has been reported. Sources said it took more than four hours for 40 fire fighters along with local residents and neighbours to bring the blaze under control. Fire & Emergency Services in Dimapur sources said that eight fire tenders were requisitioned, including two from Chumukedima Fire Station. (PTI)
