New Delhi: Two youths have been arrested for allegedly passing racist comments on a Northeast student at Maurice Nagar here.
The accused, Amit Kumar and Akash Kumar, both in 20s and hail from Bihar, were arrested after a Manipuri youth Hemang Haokip, 25, filed a complaint, alleging that they passed racist comments on him on Saturday night, police said.
Haokip, who was preparing for civil services examination, and the accused were neighbours in Christian Colony in Maurice Nagar here.
Haokip was walking near his room along with his friends when he heard the accused passing racist comments about North-east people, police said.
When Haokip objected to it, the accused also passed racist comments at him after which a heated argument broke out and a police complaint was lodged.
Both the accused, who are also civil services aspirants and working in private firms, have been booked under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, police said.
There have been a series of such incidents in the city where people from north-east have been targeted in the last over two months.
