New Delhi: In yet another incident of crime against people from the Northeast, a 21-year-old Delhi University student from Assam was on Tuesday allegedly beaten up by other students following an argument in the college canteen.

The incident took place in PGDAV College in South Campus area here on Tuesday afternoon when the victim, Pran Saikia, who is a final year student of Political Science (Hons), was beaten up allegedly by one Sonu along with his other associates over a petty issue in the canteen.

Saikia, who sustained injuries on his lips, cheek and eye, reached the principal’s office to complain about the incident, following which the principal asked the security guards to close all exit points of the college to nab the main accused. But by that time he managed to flee.

Sonu, who is in his 20s and who was pursuing B.A. first year from the same college has been suspended by college authorities.

“Sonu was arrested for his offences,” said a senior police official. (PTI)
