SHILLONG: A ‘dacoit’, who is also suspected to be a Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) militant, managed to escape from Tura Civil Hospital on Thursday.

South West Garo Hills SP R Muthu said that the accused Brijio M Marak was undergoing treatment at Ampati after being beaten up by an angry mob along with another militant Ringrang A Sangma there on Wednesday.

Both the militants were undergoing treatment at Ampati community health centre. The doctors on Thursday referred them to Tura Civil Hospital for further treatment.

He gave police a slip when he was brought to Tura Civil Hospital for treatment.

“An alert has been sounded in entire Garo Hills to trace the dacoit,” said Mathu, who sought a report from the concerned officers in this connection.

“We will take action once we get the report,” Muthu said.
