Amethi: Congress president Sonia Gandhi will be arriving here on April 19 to address an election rally for her son Rahul Gandhi, the party’s vice-president and candidate from the high-profile constituency here.
It would be the first time that the Congress president would be campaigning for her son in his constituency.
During her day-long visit Gandhi (Sonia) would address an election meeting in Nandmahar area of the constituency and then return to Delhi, district unit president of Congress, Yogendra Misra said.
The local unit of the party is making an all-out effort to make Congress president’s visit here a grand success.
Sister Priyanka Gandhi and brother-in-law Robert Vadra recently campaigned for Rahul when he had arrived here to file his nomination papers and Sonia too accompanied her son that day.
With television actress-turned-politician Smriti Irani from BJP and AAP’s Kumar Vishwas challenging Rahul in the family pocketborough, Congress appears to be taking no chances in its preparations during the run-up to the polls.
Irani has earlier attacked her Congress rival saying “Development is not visible in Amethi. Rahul Gandhi has done nothing to develop the area”.  A two-time MP, Rahul, expressing confidence in people has said that opinion polls will be proved wrong like in 2004 and 2009. (PTI)
