Hyderabad: Barely ten days to go for the D-day, the lacklustre, listless and low key campaigning in Telangana, which has gained statehood is expected to kick up lot of dust and din in the coming days with top-notch politicians descending early next week to woo the electorate.
Congress and BJP presidents Sonia Gandhi and Rajnath Singh respectively, BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi and Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi, among others, are scheduled to address election rallies in Telangana, where polling is slated for April 30.
Ms Gandhi will address a public meeting on April 27 at Medak, which was once represented in Lok Sabha by the late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. Before that, Mr Rahul Gandhi will address public meetings in Nizamabad and Mahabubnagar on April 21.
Mr Gandhi will also address election rallies in Warangal and Hyderabad on April 25.
Mr Modi along with Telugu movie actor and Jana Sena Party chief Pavan Kalyan will address a public meeting in Hyderabad early next week. Mr Modi will also address meetings at one or two other places in Telangana.
The venue and date of Mr Singh’s meetings is yet to be decided, according to BJP sources.
Mr Pavan Kalyan is the brother of Union Minister Chiranjeevi, also the chairman of Andhra Congress Campaign Committee.
The theme song of major players like the Congress, the Telangana Rashtra Samithi and the Telugu Desam was speedy and all-round development of Telangana with each of these parties claiming during electioneering that they alone could ensure these.
Besides, the Congress and the TRS claim credit for turning the dream of a separate Telangana into a reality.
Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee chief Ponnala Laxmiah said that Ms Gandhi’s tour of Karimnagar a few days ago had enthused the party cadres besides evoking tremendous response from the people, especially women.
He claimed that no other party or its leader would enjoy such trust and credibility among the people of Telangana as the Congress and Ms Gandhi.
Former union minister and BJP nominee for the Secunderabad Lok Sabha seat B Dattatreya said he had urged Mr Pavan Kalyan to campaign for him.
TDP Supremo N Chandrababu Naidu and TRS chief K Chnadrasekhar Rao are the chief campaigners for their respective parties with both of them traversing the region braving the blazing sun to woo the voters.
Personalities from the celluloid world like Vijayashanti, Roja, Jayasudha, N Balakrishna, Pavan Kalyan, among others, are adding the filmi touch to the electioneering. (UNI)
