SHILLONG: Rangdajied United FC dropped one place to 11th in the I-League standings on Saturday after United SC beat defending champions Churchill Brothers 2-0 in Goa.
Churchill are thus mired in 12th place, just one point above Mohammedan Sporting (22 to 21).
United SC, who have faced financial woes throughout the season, pulled themselves out of any danger of the drop with the victory on Saturday, with Eric Brown producing a double.
The relegation battle is now between the bottom three clubs.
Rangdajied have 24 points and need at least a draw in their last match, which will be the Shillong derby on Monday. Mohammedan need to win on April 27 against Mumbai FC, while Churchill will take on Salgaocar on the following day.
Meanwhile, in Pune on Saturday, East Bengal did their title hopes good by coming from a goal down to beat seventh-placed Pune FC 2-1.
East Bengal (40 points), are still a point behind leaders Bengaluru FC (41), who have two games to play.
