Bihar leader’s abducted son killed
Patna: The abducted son of a JD-U leader was killed in Bihar’s Nawada district and four people have been arrested, police said Saturday. Janata Dal-United (JD-U) leader Renu Kushwaha’s son Vipin Kumar, in his mid 20s, was abducted April 13. The abductors demanded Rs.50 lakh as ransom for his release and they killed him after it was not paid. This was revealed by four people, including a woman, who were arrested from Rajauli area in this connection, a district police official said. “Abductors have murdered Vipin and buried him. The body was not recovered so far…,” a police officer said. Kushwaha is a member of Bihar state women commission. She joined JD-U two months ago after resigning from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). 17 persons from PoK detained in UP
Maharajganj (UP): Seventeen persons, including three women and 10 children, from Pakistan Occupied Kashmir were detained for illegally crossing into India from Nepal through Sonouli border, SSB sources said on Saturday. Four men, three women and 10 children were detained from here yesterday for illegally crossing into India after reaching Kathmandu from Pakistan, Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) Deputy Commandant of Sonouli Mithul Kumar said. Kumar said all of them hailed from POK’s Muzaffarabad town and had left Jammu and Kashmir in 1989 and 2009 in separate groups. It is suspected that some of them had been involved in terrorist activities, Kumar said. The group, accompanied by SSB personnel, has been sent to Jammu and Kashmir cell in Delhi from where the central intelligence agencies would take over, he added.(PTI)
Lightning kills two in Rajhasthan
Bhilwara: Two persons were killed when they were struck by lightening in the Bhilwara district of Rajasthan here, police said on Saturday. The deceased identified as Sugna Bhil (60) and Amrit Lal (40) were standing in an open ground last evening in Jahazpur area when the incident occurred. The bodies have been handed over to the respective families after the postmortem, they said. (PTI)
Himachal hills get fresh snow
Shimla: The hills of Himachal Pradesh Saturday saw a sharp fall in mercury due to overnight rain in the low and mid hills and snow in higher reaches, but the Met Office forecast mainly clear weather next week. Most of the prominent tourist towns like Shimla, Narkanda, Kufri, Manali and Dalhousie, located in mid-hills, witnessed moderate to heavy rain, while high hills like Kalpa in Kinnaur district experienced moderate snow, according to a Met official here. The state capital saw a minimum temperature of 5.6 degrees Celsius, while it was minus 0.6 degrees in Manali, 2.8 degrees in Dalhousie and 9.6 degrees in Dharamsala. These towns experienced 19.2 mm, 37 mm, 74 mm and 61 mm rainfall, respectively. Bharmour in Chamba district was the coldest place in the state with a low of minus 3.1 degrees Celsius. (IANS)
High-tension wire falls on bus in MP
Bhopal: Many casualties were feared as a high-tension wire fell on a bus in which around 60 members of a marriage party were travelling in Madhya Pradesh’s Bhind district Friday, police said, adding the exact number was not known yet. Inspector General of Police (Chambal) D.C. Sagar told IANS that it was a very serious accident but more details or the number of dead or injured was awaited. According to police, preliminary reports said that the bus caught fire after the accident. (IANS)
Yet another glass panel breaks at Chennai airport
Chennai: A portion of a glass panel in the domestic VIP lounge of the airport here developed cracks on Saturday. Officials cordoned off the area soon after the incident was brought to their notice, airport sources said. Arrangements have been made to replace the glass, they said. This is the latest in a series of such incidents of collapse of false ceiling, glass doors and panels and granite slabs at the new domestic and international terminals of the airport, built at a cost of over Rs 2,000 crore and inaugurated by Vice-President Hamid Ansari in January 2013. Today’s incident is the third since the last month end. On March 31, a sensor glass gate collapsed at the terminal, injuring an employee of the airport while a big glass door came crashing down, causing panic among passengers and security personnel about a week later.
