Rajnath hits out at Cong over Vadra’s alleged land deals
Etah (UP): BJP President Rajnath Singh on Sunday attacked Rahul Gandhi over alleged land deals involving his brother-in law Robert Vadra, saying just like the 2G scam there is also a “jija ji scam” during the Congress’ rule. Singh said poor farmers must be given insurance cover for their agricultural land. “Just like there is insurance cover given to persons, there needs to be insurance of agricultural land as well,” he said at a public meeting in Sidhpura under Etah Lok Sabha constituency. Singh said Congress has divided the country and the people must be wary of “shackles of slavery” in the country. He was campaigning for former Uttar Pradesh chief minsiter Kalyan Singh’s son and BJP candidate from Etah, Rajvir Singh. The BJP President said that if voted to power his party would provide six months skill training to unemployed youth and provide loans to render them self-employed. He also said measures would be put in place to ensure women’s safety. (PTI)
Caste politics biggest hurdle in development of country:Varun
Sultanpur: BJP national secretary and Lok Sabha candidate from here Varun Gandhi on Sunday termed caste politics as the biggest hurdle in development of the country. During an election meeting with the representatives of Kayastha community, the BJP leader said he did not believe in caste politics as it was the biggest hurdle in development. Gandhi said if he says that he would solve all the problems of Sultanpur, it would not be a right thing. “Instead of making tall promises I will identify and solve the problems,” he said. (PTI)
Repolling at four booths in Rajasthan on Monday
Jaipur: Repolling will be held on Monday at three polling booths in Barmer and one in Churu constituency for the Lok Sabha elections in Rajasthan. The Election Commission on Saturday ordered the repoll at the four booths following some technical problem in electronic voting machines, a CEO spokesman said. Repoll will be held at booth number 171, 226, 96 in Barmer constituency and polling station number 92 in Churu from 7 am to 6 pm on Saturday. BJP rebel and Independent candidate from Barmer seat, Jaswant Singh had filed a complaint to the EC alleging misuse of government machinery to help BJP candidate Col Sonaram. The polling for the first phase in 20 out of 25 constituencies in the state was held on April 17 while remaining five will go to poll on April 24. (PTI)
Keep TVs switched off till Thursday: Cong tells voters
Karauli (Raj): Apparently wary of BJP’s advertisement blitz, Congress general secretary C P Joshi on Sunday asked voters to keep their televisions switched off till April 24, when election will held in remaining five seats in Rajasthan. “There is no wave of BJP. It is better you all keep your televisions switched off for next three days and vote for Congress,” Joshi said at a rally, which was also addressed by party vice president Rahul Gandhi. Referring to Joshi’s comments, former chief minister Ashok Gehlot said that there is need “to understand the lies” of the BJP Prime Ministerial candididate Narendra Modi. “He talks as if he would turn the country into heaven and would bring down inflation if his government is formed but we have to understand the lies of Modi,” Gehlot said. Four of a family killed, revenge suspected
Mathura: Four members of a family have been killed after a group of about dozen people fired indiscriminately at them while they were riding an auto- rickshaw between Bishambhra and Mehrauli village, police said on Sunday. The victims have been identified as Micchu, Mubin, Aziz, and Mausa who died on the spot while Bhulla is fighting for his life in a hospital, they said. The incident happened late Saturday evening and revenge is being suspected as a motive. Efforts are on to nab eleven culprits named in the FIR an we are expecting to arrest them shortly, SSP Akhilesh Kumar Meena said. The incident is suspected to be a revenge for murder of Khurshid and Hakmu that took place in August in 2012. Sons of Khurshid and Hakmu have also been named in the FIR in the incident, police said. Sonia cancels Maharashtra rallies, citing ill health
New Delhi: Congress president Sonia Gandhi Sunday cancelled her one-day Maharashtra tour, citing health reasons. The Congress party said Sonia Gandhi is unwell, but refused to disclose any details about her illness. Sonia Gandhi was to address rallies in Mumbai, Dhule and Nandurbar. While party vice president Rahul Gandhi along with Nationalist Congress Party chief Sharad Pawar will now address the Mumbai rally, actor-politician Raj Babbar and union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad will address the other rallies on her behalf, according to Congress sources. Feeling cheated, Facebook lover kills woman after meeting her
Jabalpur: In a `met-on-Facebook’ love story gone horribly wrong, a 22-year-old youth shot dead a woman twice his age and then committed suicide after realising that she had cheated about her looks, age and marital status. The accused Vineet Singh, hailing from Muzzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh befriended Jyoti Kori (44) on Facebook some two and half years ago. Inspector General, Jabalpur Range, Upendra Jain said Jyoti never revealed that the photograph she had put up on the site was not hers, and that she was a married woman with three children.On April 18, Vineet arrived in Jabalpur to meet her in person for the first time. The two went to Bhedhaghat on the banks of river Narmada near here, where after learning the truth he shot her dead and then shot himself. He was taken to a hospital but succumbed to injuries after giving a statement to the police that he felt cheated by Jyoti. Police said the pistol he used too appears in some of his Facebook photographs, which Jyoti had `liked’. Further probe is on. (PTI)
