Girls outsmart boys in merit list of Mizoram matric results

Aizawl: Girls outshone boys in the merit list of Mizoram HSLC examinations results which registered 67.51% pass percentage, a significant improvement from last year’s pass percentage of 58.63%.
The results announced by Mizoram Board of School Education (MBSE) on Friday witnessed 12 girls among the 19 students in the merit list.
Altogether 18469 candidates, including 9489 girls, appeared for the exams and 12468 of them passed. In the overall results, boys performed better than girls by securing 68.64 pass percentage against girls’ 66.43 percent.
As usual St Paul’s HSS in Aizawl produced the largest number of students in the merit list. Eight students in the merit list are from the Roman Catholic-run school.
The 7th positioner in the merit list is from Govt National High School in Phullen. A student from a government high school in a remote rural is significant.
While 429 candidates attained distinction, 1955 passed in first division, 3569 in second division and 6515 in third division. Compartmental chances were given to 387 candidates while 5614 candidates failed.
Deficit schools witnessed 92.97 pass percentage while government-aided and lumpsum schools registered 80.78 and 78.85 pass percentages respectively.
Deficit, government-aided and lumpsum schools are those financed by government by managed by private boards.
Private schools (financed and managed privately) outshined government-run schools, by recording a 84.66 percent of candidates passed, against government-run schools’ 75.64 pass percentage.
In 2012, matric results witnessed 72.27% pass percentage, the highest ever since the establishment of Mizoram Board of School Education. It declined to 58.68 percent in 2013.
The pass percentage had increased to 69.99 percent in 2011 from 66.60 percent in 2010. It was 60.46 percent in 2009. (UNI)
