SHILLONG: The State Bank of India has expressed concern over the sudden spurt of cases of people being defrauded or cheated through telephone calls by persons ostensibly posing as SBI employees to extract vital and secret information like the ATM card number and pin number.
“We strongly suspect there that there is an organised gang either from outside or within the State who are trying to lure people by pretending to be SBI employees,” the SBI stated in a statement issued here on Friday.
The bank stated that from to time, they have tried to highlight the safety and security features of ATM usage by way of public notices in newspapers as well as posters available in most of its ATMs.
“Divulgence of ATM Card Number, PIN Number and CVV Number to anyone may result in unscrupulous use by miscreants and criminals, who can make online transactions from the customers’ accounts, leading to them being cheated and defrauded, often by huge amounts,” the SBI said.
The bank however urged upon the customers that they should register their mobile number to get SMS alerts of any transactions done on their card, be careful of people loitering inside ATMs while they are using your card, online shopping to be done from reliable and secure sites only, preferably from your home PC/laptop/mobile.
