Shillong gears up for mega global education fair, reports Canvas

APRIL DOESN’T just make the cuckoo sing, the jacaranda bloom and the body swing in springtime festivity. It is also the month when thinking of the road ahead matters more than merely hanging out with friends.

What if you get a platform for a combo of choosing the right career course while having a fun time with friends?

Lynchpin, India’s leading education fair organizer, is providing such a platform – Edufest: the Shillong Career Fair – at All Saints’ Hall (IGP Point) on April 29 and 30. It promises a world of educational options to help you break out of a cocoon of conventional courses.

This year’s edition of Edufest promises more than before. The two-day event brings together more than 60 reputed colleges – some with international standings – to interact with students for pursuing the right course for the right career.

The exhibition has been timed after the examinations so that students can make a choice of course and college. Edufest, in its 12 years, is seen by students as one of very few genuine forums to get quality information from top-grade institutions across India and abroad. It will be no different this time too.

This year’s exhibition will see students get an opportunity to meet and interact with people providing different courses for undergraduate and post graduate streams. These streams include conventional ones like medicine and engineering but at the same time new age skill-based programmes that are in huge demand today.

And like always, only representatives of leading institutions will be invited cutting out consultants so that students can confidently discuss their study options and plan accordingly. The institutes include Amity University, DY Patil University, APJ Staya University, Hindustan University, Dayanand Sagar, etc., to name a few. Rangsit University, one of Thailand’s most reputed universities, will be attending the fair for the first time. Thailand is emerging as one of the favoured destinations for students of the Northeast.

Students can access a lot of information on the internet, but there are many areas where this information is incomplete. Edufest fills the gap, offering students and parents an opportunity for a face to face interaction with university representatives. Students can ask questions regarding admission cut offs, procedures, fees, accommodation. Under one roof, they can interact and get information that would have cost them a fortune if they had to collect themselves.

The upcoming Edufest has already generated interest among students and parents. D Das, a resident of Laban, said: “Edufest has become a great opportunity for students in this part of the world to meet quality institutions offering various courses. I am looking forward to it and hope all my queries will be answered. I am also hopeful of getting my daughter admitted to a good institution. The best thing about Edufest is the range of choice on offer, opportunity to weigh the different options and make an informed choice.”

Nongrim Hills-based C Rynjah said last year’s Edufest helped her daughter get admitted to Dayanand Sagar College right here in Shillong. “This saved us a lot in travel time and money,” he added.
