Fire damages cellular equipment

SHILLONG: Optical fibre cables and duct pipes worth several lakh of rupees were gutted in a major fire that broke out at Rynjah on Saturday afternoon.

Officials from the Meghalaya Fire and Emergency Services said that the cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.

However, sources said that duct pipes and wires belonging to cellular companies were damaged when fire broke out in the storage area in Rynjah.

Immediately after the matter was brought to the notice of the people, fire tenders reached the spot and doused the fire.

Police did not rule out the handiwork of miscreants even as investigation in this regard is on and officials from the Meghalaya Fire and Emergency Services said that the extent of loss is yet to be ascertained by the department.
