Imphal: Manipur is facing water crisis which has made people go wild in search of water.

Due to poor rain and deforestation in the surrounding areas most rivers have gone dry. Water supply have almost stopped and people are buying water tankers at exorbitant prices. Efforts are made to take water from all available sources like pond and many people are drawing water from drainage.

Chief Minister O Ibobi discussed the water crisis Saturday evening, official sources said. Public Health Engineering department officials have been asked to identify all sources of water and arrange supply of water to the people to solve the crisis.

Due to the water crisis even hospitals are not able to perform even normal operations. Water level of Singda Dam – the main water supply plant in the city is extremely low and it is not supplying water to the people.

There is some stock of water at Singda dam which has been kept for emergency purposes only. (UNI)
