Aizawl: Mizoram’s lone Rajya Sabha Member Lalhming Liana on Thursday urged the state government to act decisively if Assam government officials entered the state and harass people in the border areas again.

Liana, who visited the border areas yesterday in the wake of the reports that some villagers were intimidated by Assam officials, said that the state government should act rather than indulging in rhetoric to protect the lives and property of the people and the territory of Mizoram.

The Mizo National Front leader alleged that the state Home Minister R Lalzirliana had sent Mizoram Armed Police to Manipur to intimidate the Mizos in the neighbouring state while failing to act against the Assam officials.

The Centre, he said, should now acknowledge that there were border disputes between Assam and Mizoram and should make sincere efforts to find amicable solution before violence erupted. (PTI)
