Traditional healer arrested on rape charge

ILLONG: A traditional healer identified as Chanly Mawkhniang (40) has been arrested from Kbet village, Umsawnongbri near Nongpoh in Ri Bhoi district on charges of allegedly raping a mentally-challenged girl on several occasions.

Police informed that the girl was being sent to the traditional healer for the past 7-8 days by her parents for treatment and the accused allegedly took advantage of the situation to molest the girl on several occasions.

Police, however, informed that the allegation was yet to be verified.

The accused was arrested on Thursday evening after the parents of the girl lodged an FIR with Nongpoh police.
