SHILLONG: The East Khasi Hills boys and girls teams reached their respective finals of the U-12 State Level Chief Minister’s Football Tournament by convincingly defeating their opponents at the JN Stadium, Polo, on Friday.

The boys beat East Jaintia Hills 5-0, while the girls took care of South West Khasi Hills 6-0.

West Khasi Hills beat Ri-Bhoi 3-1 in the other boys’ semifinal and will take on EKH in the title match on Saturday at 9:00am.

The EKH girls will meet East Jaintia Hills, who had to fight through a tie-breaker 4-3 to defeat Ri-Bhoi in the other girls’ semi.

Nisilia Majaw scored yet another hat-trick in the tournament in the defeat of South West Khasi Hills.

Nisilia scored in the sixth, 23rd and 32nd minutes, taking her tally in the competition to 10 goals.

Marbarin Nongrum scored a brace (35th, 37th minutes), while Shilnita Umdor added one goal in the 42nd.

Meanwhile, Armystar Shadap scored his eighth and ninth goals of the tournament in the EKH boys’ victory over East Jaintia Hills (wrongly previewed as West Jaintia Hills in Friday’s edition of the newspaper).

Armystar scored in the 18th and 38th minutes, after Nangshemlang Wahlang opened his team’s account in the ninth minute.

Glenny SG Lynrah and Remark Kharkamni added their contributions in the 25th and 42nd minutes, respectively.

Ri-Bhoi opened the scoring in only the third minute through Fragrant S Mawlong before Kynsai (8th), Kalbinstar (27th) and Baby Sunday Marngar (45th) stole the game away for West Khasi Hills.

Both East Khasi Hills teams have been very strong in the tournament thus far, winning all of their games handsomely.

However, their Saturday opponents have also done very well to get to the finals and will be itching to upset the applecart.
