Kohima: The ‘National cultural exchange’ programme reached at V. K. town under Zunheboto district on Saturday, which was held under the aegis of North East Zone Culture Centre (NEZCC) in collaboration with the V. K. Area Gaon Burahs (GB) Association. According to a release today people in hundred from all walks of life from the V. K. town and adjoining villages thronged the V. K. Town Volleyball Court to witness the historical extravaganza.
Cultural troupes from the North East states and beyond showcased their unique and colourful display of various traditional songs, dances and play-act presented by more than 130 participants of different troupes from all the North-Eastern states including Sikkim and Odisha displayed the rich heritage.
The Hozagiri dance (Tripura), Cheraw- Bamboo dance (Mizoram), Kao-Kong Tokai (Arunachal Pradesh), Wangala-Garo dance (Meghalaya), Bihu (Assam), Sambhalpuri (Odisha), Dahal Thungri (Assam), Yak Cham-Bhutia (Sikkim), Pung-Dhon-Dholak Cholom, Thang-La (Manipur) were the highlights of the cultural extravaganza.
The local Sumi special display was Sumi men’s war dance, spear-kicking, top-spinning, traditional art of fire making and paddy harvest song. The Chairperson VK area GB Association welcomed the guests, while NEZCC Director Lipokmar gave a short message.
After the function was over with a community feast, the entire cultural team of NEZCC left for Mokokchung for another show scheduled in the evening, where the Ao Naga community is celebrating the Moatsu festival with the national level folk dance & music Festival under the theme, ‘Discover Northeast’.
