SHILLONG: The relatives of one Sajol Langstieh who was recently arrested by police have alleged illegal detention.
Earlier, police had claimed that Sajol was arrested for assaulting a constable identified as DK Shullai on the night of May 2.
However, in the FIR lodged with Sadar police station on Monday, the relatives alleged that Langstieh was illegally detained at Laitumkhrah Beat house without following any legal procedures as the court was not informed about his arrest.
According to the FIR, no official paper of the detention or arrest was made available to the prosecuting inspector.
As per the FIR, on May 2, Langstieh was taken to Civil Hospital for medical examination and subsequently, he was brought back to Laitumkhrah Beat house. However, after the police was informed that he was a patient of hyper tension, Langstieh was taken back to Civil Hospital.
The relatives said that while moving bail, they found out that there were no documents available with the police related to his detention. Besides, copy of the FIR and medical reports were also not with police indicating that his detention was illegal, they said.
On Monday, Langstieh was taken out of Civil Hospital with an intention to keep him at Sadar police station, but when the relatives came to know about it, he was taken to NEIGRIHMS, the FIR said.
The relatives also learnt that Langstieh was allegedly forced to sign the arrest memo by a woman constable at Laitumkhrah Beat House on May 4.
The FIR sought stringent action against the investigation officer and the woman police personnel of Laitumkhrah Beat House.
