Athletic meet underway in West Khasi Hills

NONGSTOIN: A three-day District-level Inter-school Athletics Meet, organised by the West Khasi Hills District Sports Officer got underway on Wednesday at Nongpathar Outdoor Stadium here.

The Joint Director of School Education and Literacy, West Khasi Hills, S Diengdoh, was the chief guest at the inaugural function.

A total of 17 co-educational schools comprising 572 athletes, both boys and girls, are taking part in the May 7-9 athletic event.

While speaking at the inaugural function, Diengdoh stated that the objective of organising this event is to bring unity and brotherhood among the children and urged them to show the true spirit of sportsmanship while playing in various events.

A total of eight track events finals and 14 field events finals for both boys and girls in all age categories were conducted on the first day of the meet and many promising athletes will be taking part in this year’s meet.
