New Delhi: Multiple world champion and Olympic bronze-medallist MC Mary Kom is among the 19 boxers selected for the senior women’s core group of probables for this year’s Commonwealth Games and Asian Games.
The list was prepared after a selection trial held at here from May 6-8 under the supervision of the ad-hoc committee.
The three-day selection trials were attended by five former boxers – Mehtab Singh, Deverajan, Ali Qamar, Jitender Kumar and Rajender Prasad – who were also members of the selection committee.
While Mary and six other boxers were selected in the 51kg category, seven women pugilists were handpicked in the 60kg division and four in the 75kg weight category.
The group consists of several North East pugilists from Manipur, Assam and Mizoram.
The selection trials for the men in all ten categories will start on Friday.
Women’s probables:
51kg category – MC Mary Kom, Pinking Rani, Rebeeca, Sonia Lather, Mamta, Sarjubala, Vanlalduati.
60kg category – L Sarita Devi, Preeti Beniwal, Pavitra, Pwilao Basumatary, Minu Basumatary, K Mandakini, H Chaoba Devi.
75kg category – Pooja Rani, Neetu Chahal, Alari Boro, Seema Poonia, Monica Saun. (PTI)
