SHILLONG: The ANVC-B has pointed the alleged role of ANVC cadres in the assault case of 12 girls in Tura.
In a statement issued to the media on Sunday, the ANVC-B leader Doang Shira expressed concern over uploading of explicit photographs of 12 girls, who were tortured by the self styled vigilantes in social networking sites. The ANVC-B leader said the 12 victims’ photographs that were uploaded in the social media were explicitly inappropriate. The motive looks like a scheme to hijack the entire episode into a scandal, he said.
“The odd part in the entire episode is covering up of the involvement of ANVC cadres. ANVC cadre Katong was one among many who barged into NGO member Jaynie Sangma’s house but was not mentioned anywhere. The names of ANVC cadres were mentioned by many in social media but were covered up as the victims were rescued by public and not by ANVC”, the ANVC-B leader alleged.
The ANVC-B also revealed that Jaynie was beaten up by Katong and warned dire consequences if his name was not removed from the testimony of the victims. “This side of the story should not be overlooked by the investigators. Who authorised ANVC cadres to enter Jaynie’s house? Was it not proper to inform the police or was it authorised by police? Are they being used to cover up the truth in the entire episode or there is a different dimension entirely?” the ANVC-B asked.
According to ANVC-B, the victims will not be safe in their respective places when there is constant update in social media by a certain organization. Government should have provided a ‘shelter home’ to rehabilitate the victims with proper security and guidance till the completion of an inquiry, the ANVC-B leader said. The ANVC-B appealed to the district authorities to handle the case cautiously and also made an appeal to NGOs to refrain from any agitation to allow conducive atmosphere for fair investigation aimed at getting justice.
