Two pro-ILP activists secure bail

SHILLONG: Two KSU members — Johny Sohkhlet and Readytonstone Nongrum, who were arrested during Inner Line Permit (ILP) agitation last year, were released on bail on Tuesday.

Both Sohkhlet and Nongrum, who are the members of KSU’s Lawsohtun unit, secured freedom as the State Government revoked its order to book them under the MPDA.

Besides the two KSU activists, another NGO leader Everson Syngkon was also booked under MPDA.

Nongrum and Sohklet, who were lodged in Williamnagar District Jail in East Garo Hills, were brought to Shillong District Jail on Saturday, KSU general secretary Auguster Jyrwa said. Nongrum and Sohkhlet were arrested for their alleged involvement in setting ablaze a city tea-stall owner Bisheshwar Das (58) on November 16 last year,
