State-based nurses bag prestigious award

SHILLONG: In a proud moment, two nursing professionals from the State, Bisilda Langstieh and Itees Muktieh received the prestigious National Florence Nightingale Award 2013 from the President of India Pranab Mukheerjee on the occasion of International Nurses Day at New Delhi on May 12.

This year a total number of 35 nursing professionals from across the country were given this award for their services with devotion, sincerity, dedication and compassion in New Delhi.

The award carries a cash award of Rs 50,000, a certificate, a citation certificate and a medal.

Altogether 272 nurses have been decorated with this award by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare so far.

When contacted, Langstieh said that it was really satisfying to receive this award after being in this service for nearly 30 years.

She informed the she started her career with her first assignment at Umsong PHC in Ri-Bhoi district in 1984.
