East Jaintia Hills school football underway

SHILLONG: The 2nd Inter School Football Tournament (for the Subroto Cup 2014), organised by the East Jaintia Hills District Sports Officer, began at Teilang Playground, Khliehriat on May 13.

The tournament is being contested in three categories – U-14 and U-17 boys and U-17 girls – and will run until May 21.

Twenty-six schools are participating in the U-17 boys division, with 10 in the U-17 girls and eight in the U-14 boys.

Action on the first day (Tuesday) saw Rymbai Pohskur Sec School, Khliehriat Pres HS School, Krant Bell Sec School, Little Star Sec Ac School, Byndihati Sec School, Christian Sec School and Rymbai Govt Sec School all winning their first round matches in the U-17 boys category, according to a release from the DSO.

Wednesday saw Sutnga Pres Sec School, Sohkymphor Sec School and Narwan Sec School also progressed to the next round of the U-17 boys category.

Khliehriat Pres Sec School, Musniang Sec School and Khliehriat HS School all made it through in the U-14 boys category.

Among the girls teams, Step by Step School defeated Sein Jait Tuber Sec School 3-2 in a tiebreaker and Sohkymphor Sec School lost to Rymbai Govt Sec School 1-0 on Thursday.

In the first match of the U-17 boys second round, also on Thursday, Khliehriat HS School edged Byndihati Sec School 1-0 to move into the quarterfinal round, which will be held on May 19.
