Congress wins 35 Assembly seats in Arunachal

Itanagar: Facing a rout all over the country, Congress retained power in Arunachal Pradesh by winning 35 seats and securing a majority in the 60-member Assembly.

According to the results declared so far, Congress has bagged 35 seats, including 11 uncontested, and leading in 5. BJP won four seats and was leading in five. People’s Party of Arunachal (PPA) won three seats and was leading in 2. An independent won one seat.

Chief Minister Nabam Tuki had won uncontested from Sagalee constituency along with Power Electrical, Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister Tanga Byaling (Nacho) and Tourism Minister Pema Khandu (Mukto), who were among the 11 to be elected unopposed. Congress lost in Nampong, Bordumsa-Diyun Khonsa West, Khonsa East, Nari-Koyu, Bomdila and Meriyang-Geku constituencies.

The NCP which bagged five seats in the last election failed to open its account this time. A lone independent had also won the Tawang seat. (PTI)
