SHILLONG: Clearing the air on reports that votes registered in three EVMs in Tura constituency could not be counted due to a malfunction, West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Pravin Bakshi stated that the votes polled in those three EVMs do not hold any importance since the winner had already been announced with the approval of the Election Commission of India.

Bakshi also clarified that two EVMs had malfunctioned in Dambegre and North Tura segments, but their data had been retrieved.

He further informed that the data from the EVM at Baghmara could not be retrieved but it did not hold any relevance as only 131 votes had been polled in the particular EVM.

“Had there been a close margin of victory, the votes of the EVM would have had more significance,” he said.
