Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Nabam Tuki signed the Lokayukta Act for the state here on Monday.

Thanking the people of Arunachal for reposing faith in his governance, Tuki accomplished his first commitment among several other promises made in the Congress Manifesto. This step, he said, is a gift to the people of Arunachal Pradesh from a responsive government, official sources informed.

Tuki, resumed his second terms as a Chief Minister of the state after taking oath his office and secrecy from the Governor, Lt Gen Nirbhay Sharma at Raj Bhawan here late Sunday evening.

“My wish and desire is to provide clean, transparent and accountable government to the people of Arunachal Pradesh,” he said after signing the Lokayukta Act file in the presence of several newly elected Members of Legislative Assembly.

Tuki took over the states rein, from his predecessor, Jarbom Gamlin on November 1, 2011 due to political crisis on the leadership issue. He was public works minister in the outgoing cabinet before assuming his office and also the state Congress party president.

Lokayukta is a quasi-judicial body, which would act as a watchdog to pinpoint wrong doings of the administration, look into complaints of the victims of corrupt elements and suggest measures to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the government.

The Bill, which was passed by the 5th legislative assembly in its budget session in the month of March last and assented by the Governor has become an Act after the newly elected Chief Minister signed it, today, sources added. (UNI)
