GOC, Eastern Command reviews security scenario of Nagaland

Kohima:  Lt Gen M M S Rai, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Command made a two-day visit to Kohima since on Tuesday and reviewed the security situation in Nagaland. According to a Defence release today, during the course of his visit, Gen. Rai called on Nagaland Governor Dr. Ashwani Kumar and discussed the steps being taken to further consolidate security situation in the state. He held a wide ranging discussion with the Governor so as to include development projects being undertaken by the security forces in the state. The Governor had also conveyed his appreciation to the GOC-in-C and GOC 3 Corps for the outstanding performance and contribution of Assam Rifles towards maintaining peace and tranquility in Nagaland.Prior to his departure on Wednesday, Gen. Rai complimented all ranks of Headquarters IGAR (N) for their dedication and devotion to duty.He also appreciated and lauded the people, civil administration, NGOs, Church and media for their continued cooperation with security forces in the state. Woman cadre of NSCN(K) arrested

Itanagar: A woman cadre of NSCN (K), who was collecting information about the movement of security forces, was arrested from Changlang in Arunachal Pradesh, police said on Wednesday. Likjong Mandak was caught by security forces when she was found collecting information about the movement of security forces and extorting money yesterday, Changlang district SP Vijay Kumar said. Mandak, who had undergone training across the border in 2010, revealed during interrogation that women cadres were trained for the purpose of conducting recce and collecting information about movement of security forces. Bomb found at diagnostic centre in Manipur

Imphal: Panic gripped the capital city when a bomb was found here on Tuesday night at Babina Diagnostic Centre, RIMS Road. Manipur Police bomb squad safely removed the bomb and blasted it after taking it to a safe place. Police said the bomb was found in a red polythene bag near the reception counter of the centre. Staff of the centre noticed the unattended bag and immediately informed the police.  All the staff and the patients were evacuated. Police was investigating into the matter. (UNI)

PSK formally launched in Nagaland

Kohima:  The Mission Poorna Shakti, a women empowerment programme, has been formally launched in Nagaland by inaugurating Block Convergence and Facilitation Centre (BCFC) and Village Convergence and Facilitation Centre (VCFC) at Chiephobozou in Kohima district.Chiephozobou block, 26 km away from state capital, has been chosen as PSK pilot project covering 10 villages – Nerhema Model Village, Chiechama, Teichuma, Gariphema, Seiyhama Bawe, Seiyhama Basa, Botsa, Tuophema, Tsiemekhuma Bawe and Tsiemekhuma Basa.The PSK has been oriented to strengthen women’s position in the areas of education, socio-economic and health care said state government secretary Bei-u Angami after inaugurating the BCFC and VCFC on Tuesday. Consultative meet on Nagaland- Assam border talk at Dimapur

Kohima:  A consultative meeting of Naga Civil Societies and Coordination Committee of Border Protection Karbi Anglong and Karbi Peace Forum will be held on May 23 at Dimapur.According to a press statement issued by Naga Hoho General Secretary Mutsikhoyo Yhobu, Naga civil society organisations and Coordination Committee of Border Protection Karbi Anglong (CCBPKA) along with Karbi Peace Forum (KPF) would be holding a consultative meeting on May 23 at Hotel Acacia, Dimapur from 1100 hrs onwards.The statement also has directed Naga Students’ Federation; Naga Women Hoho, Dimapur; Naga Council, Dimapur and Naga Peoples’ Movement for Human Rights to attend the meeting positively. CCBP has recently issued an ultimatum and threatened to impose an indefinite economic blockade against the state on the encroachment issue in border areas and the meeting will discuss on the matter and other issues relating to the inter-state border dispute with Assam, it said. Public beat up militants in Nagaland

Kohima: With just three days after the All Commercial Vehicle Association (ACVA) Wokha district came into being and supporting the initiative of ACAUT not to pay tax, two extortionists belonging to NSCN (IM) cadre were caught by public at Doyang under Wokha district on Tuesday evening around 5 p.m. and the irate public reportedly thrashed the two and on being informed, Wokha Police went to the spot and took them into custody. According to sources on Wednesday the two arrested NSCN (I-M) cadre-members were identified and they are from Nungying and Akahaiqa village, both under Wokha district. The SDPO Wokha Kenesa disclosed, that earlier ACVA members were informed that some extortionists were forcibly collecting money from commercial vehicles plying between Merapani and Wokha road. When the ACVA members went to the spot at Doyang, they caught the two, while two others managed to flee and escape. The duo who were caught were found in possession of one .9 mm revolver with five rounds, extortion notes, tax receipts and command certificate. The two who were caught were handed over to Wokha police. The two accused, who were badly beaten up were given medical aid and locked up inside the cell as safety measure. A case was registered with Wokha Police Station and further investigation was on. The situation became tense after around one hundred members of ACVA gathered outside the police station and demanded that police hand over the accused to them. However, timely intervention by the district administration, police officers and NGOs diffused the tense situation. The ACVA has demanded that the accused be awarded stringent punishment as per the law. President ACVA Y. Pankathung Lotha also informed Nagaland Post that the four cadres of the NSCN (I-M) used two vehicles while carrying out their extortion activities. On receiving the information about the extortion on Tuesday, he said public numbering around thirty, who rushed to the spot turned into a mob and severely beat up the extortionists while two others escaped the fury.
